About The Founders

Answering the call of God, Elder James Rice and his wife Jeanetta began to search for a building where they could worship and do the work of ministry that God had called them to do.

In the fall of 1964 they found and purchased a building on the corner of 9th Ave and E.12th St in the city of Oakland, California.

The building had three apartments and one small chapel. He named the chapel, Wayside Chapel Church of God in Christ and began his Pastoral Ministry. In 1979 the name of the church was changed from Wayside Chapel to Rice Temple Church of God in Christ.

On July 7, 1996, God called Missionary Jeanetta Rice from labor to reward after 32 years of dedicated service.

After the homegoing of his wife Superintendent Rice continued to serve faithfully and diligently as Pastor and on December 28, 2007, God called him from labor to reward after 43 years of dedicated service.
